in those days we were taught that to do community service was conscientiously the same as joining the military and so we were told to refuse such exemptions.

I remember those days. I am soon to be 61 and I graduated from school in 1972. I know I was to young to go to prison in the 1960's but I was raised to believe I would go to prison as soon as I got out of high school. I would visit brothers in prison down in Springfield MO when I was a teenager. That would cause a lot of stress on me. Thinking about how would I be able to do this when I got older. I remember how many of my male peers in school was looking forward to college or great job, I was looking forward to going to prison for my faith. I would ask myself "Why do I have to go through this at such a young age when all the older ones did not have to?". It affected my life in many ways. I was very good at speed typing when in school and I wanted a electric type writer. My parents made me get a manual type writer because I would not have a electric plug for a electric typewriter in my jail cell. It was a hell of a way to grow up. Watching the war on TV and the mental games the cult played on our young minds. At 18 I had to go to the local draft board and sign up for the draft. The three old men that ran it threaten me with jail if I did not go into the service. Then by elders at that time took me aside and told me when I was drafted I would have to go to the place to be sworn in and refuse to do it and meet the consequences. So much stress. It made me sick. I was so happy to get a high lottery number and I went to a 1-A to a 1-H classification. This was in 1972 by then the war was turning and by 1975 it was all over. This event has in many ways left a scar in my life. The teaching of the WT in the 1990's did make me to start thinking but it took many years for me to wake up. You all really brought out a memory I thought I have forgotten. Don't worry I am glad you did. For all those who faced prison or was in prison because of the cults teaching my heart goes out to all of you. Take care. Still Totally ADD -

Heaven I will do my best to get you some pictures. My wife will have to help me with that. Also I have a friend who will be teaching me more about permaculture this summer. My lasagne is a big part of it. Happy Gardening.

flipper you are so lucky to have a Mom you can talk to. After all the things you went through having that is priceless. As a fellow survivor re-educating our mind is on the top of the list to do when cleaning out all the garbage from the cult. It always makes my wife and I laugh when one of our new friends try to understand the cult thinking. They look at us as if our faces have turned green and we have grown a extra head. Thank you Xanthippe for your thoughts. I guess I wrote this subject wrong. I was not looking for comfort but to get everyone to think about what this cult has really done to all of us. No matter what happen to them. I am glad you are doing better. As they say one day at a time. Good luck to you.
Heaven I hope you are wrong that this group can get worse but I see were you are coming from. We all need to speak out on this subject. As far as the garden goes after a hard, hard winter I am now getting ready for this summer garden. I will be building a 10 x 20 ft. greenhouse next month. So I can do winter gardening. I remember when I signed up on this site as Totally ADD which was 5 years ago plus. I had a horror story to tell about the abuses I went through as a child in this cult. Since then mentally I am much better. For the most part what I have notice is my story was not uncommon among the many who was a born-in or who parents came into the cult when they was a small child. Yes their was those who had a good life but that was the exception and not the rule. To my surprise many of the stories were far worse than what I went through. I guess what I am trying to say is. How much worse can this cult get when it comes to the abuses it has allowed to happen to innocent children? When it comes to the term child abuse I am in agreement with what Christopher Hitchens had to say on this matter. ("Child abuse" is really a silly an pathetic euphemism for what has been going on: we are talking about the systematic rape and torture of children, positively aided and abetted by a hierarchy which knowingly moved or ("protected" my words) offenders to parishes where they would be safer. )
This in part shows the WT religion always functions to ensure its own survival. While it may espouse various ideas about brotherhood, love and community, these are always secondary to the WT survival. Think about this. If your training in the JW cult was anything like mine, chances are much of it was downright immoral. Immoral in the sense that the values that were taught were racist, sexist, insulting and cruel to other groups, and misleading if not downright wrong about human relationships, sexuality, science, education, other religions and many other things. We must remember the systematic rape and torture of children is only a part of the mental health issues caused by the JW cult. How much hatred, suspicion, conflict, strife, even violence and death, is caused by this cult? How many families are torn apart by this cult? How many children are terrorized by the demon-haunted world they are forced to inhabit?
By exposing the manipulations of the WT cult, an opportunity for greater choice and freedom is opened for all of us. Author Darrel W. Ray, Ed.D. wrote in his book "The God Virus" (Being alive today is the only thing you or I know. We are the product of an amazing biological process in which on sperm out of millions met one egg. This event will never happen again. Make the most of it.) What life we all have left please do what you need to do to make it a happier and better world in which we live in and if we can help others who are still part of this horrible cult. Kendrick " Letter of Introduction " from Elders regarding Candace Conti Case

This letter is a perfect example that I found in the past of elders who cannot get to the point of a matter. I saw this many times when I was a elder. I would finally tell them stop beating around the bush and tell me what you mean. This shows many elders are not forthright when it comes to communicating a serious matter. They are so worry to hurt someones feelings. This only proves a point many here have said many times that elders are not in many cases qualified to handle such serious matters. What help me to understand why Wt. or any other religion allows the rape of children I read the book "The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture". It was a big revelation for me on why religion do what they do to protect themselves. Bottom line is it is not about god it's about their religious organization. Protect it at all cost. JW literature cart spot pinched by another church group!

the spot that is used by the local cong in our town for the literature cart has been taken over by another church group!.
the witnesses arrived to set up, and another group was in the exact same spot, with a table, and brochures and a sign..... it will be a great thing as it dilutes the effectiveness of the witness activity, by making it look confusing to the local town people!.....

Right on Flipper. I feel we need to change the language of Child Abuse or even Child Molester. I see it as a pathetic euphemism for what has been going on. Why do I say that? Because we are really talking about the systematic rape and torture of children, which are aided and abetted by the JW hierarchy to conceal the grossest offenders from the flock in the congregation. For me I will always call it what it is rape and torture of children. The Wt. is hiding behind all their little rules instead of being forthright in protecting the children in their flocks. Like all other religions the Wt. always functions to ensure its own survival. They may espouse various ideas about brotherhood and love but these are always secondary to their survival. The Wt. like all other religions simply do not give up. They will modify and mutate. They will do whatever it takes to keep themselves alive and viable. If it takes deceit they are willing to sacrificed children to ensure survival or advancement of the Wt. Thank you for letting me to blow some steam on this subject. Still Totally ADD
